A Story

I had so much fun designing a setting for Pudgy Puppy Zombie Dog that I decided to create a comic strip about him.  I even designed a friend named Zombie Girl, who could play with Pudgy Puppy at night.

Setting

I then wanted to create a setting for Pudgy Puppy Zombie Dog.  What other place would a zombie be but in a cemetery!

I looked at pictures of spooky cemeteries and used them as a reference.  You can see how the trees are naked and spiny.  I also set the whole scene at night, with a full moon, since that's when zombies usually come out to play!

Character Colors

The next step was to trace my final character design in pen and then choose the colors for my character:

Zombies are usually a pale green, so I went with that color for Pudgy Puppy's skin.  Purple is a contrasting hue to green, so I chose that for his shirt.  I also added a cat head to show what Pudgy Puppy likes to eat and added some blood to show that he had just had a meal.

Early Character Designs

These are examples of my very early character designs for Pudgy Puppy Zombie Dog.

He started out looking like a very ugly, old, and crazy dog.

Then he slowly became cuter with rounder eyes and a larger head.

He finally started looking more like a zombie, with crazy eyes, raised arms, and a boxy head.
